Schmickl et al. described a fascinating phenomenon that happens in a system of moving particles where the motion of any particle depends in a very simple way on it's current velocity and the number of its neighbors on either side of its velocity vector. There are two ad-hoc parameters controlling the influence of these two factors and for a specific choice of these parameters they observed the particles moving to form patters similar to living beings with cell like formations appeared, grew and died. Their result was published in Nature.
The purpose of this thesis is two-folds: one, to replicate their findings, and two, to have a parallel implementation of their system so that bigger experiments can be performed.
