Motivation
China is traditionally an important tea exporter and exports tea to more than 40 countries and regions every year. Largely, African, European and North American markets. Although the EU and Japan are big countries about the consumption of tea, the export volume of Chinese tea is very small. It seems that there are two main possible reasons for this. The first is Eu has the thickest technical barrier, and the second relates to the influence of Market Competition between China and other emerging Tea countries.

The aim of this paper will be to use the Gravity model to empirically analyze which factors are affecting Chinese tea exports generally. It will also mainly on the potential trade for the EU markets. Besides this,.Does the particular regulation (eg: pesticide residues) have a significant negative impact on China’s Tea exports? and carefully study specific trade barriers (such as pesticide residues) to identify targeted trade policies in the future.

Hypotheses
Hypothesis #1: Technical Barrier will have a significant negative impact on China’s Tea exports
Hypothesis #2: The effect of technical barriers is particularly strong in the case of Chinese tea exports to the EU markets
Hypothesis #3: The particular regulation ( e.g: pesticide residues) have a significant negative impact on China’s Tea exports

Methodology
To provide the desired results I will carry out an empirical analysis using the gravity model. In this case, There are three main steps to conduct this analysis:

Step 1: Estimate coefficients of the gravity model.
Step 2: Use the gravity model to estimate trade potential (especially for the EU markets)
Step 3: Estimate the specific effect of particular barriers (pesticides) on the Chinese tea exports
