Předběžná náplň práce

Bakalářská práce se zabývá komparací politiky Baracka Obamy a Donalda Trumpa vůči Turecku v kontextu současné krize ve vztahu se Spojenými státy. Cílem práce je odpovědět na otázku, zdali politika obou prezidentů byla koherentní a jakým způsobem se promítly případné rozdíly na dnešním zhoršení vztahů. Práce se zaměřuje na tři oblasti: spolupráce uvnitř NATO, problematika kurdské menšiny a proměna domácí politické situace v Turecku. Práce ukazuje, že navzdory odlišnému obecnému přístupu k zahraniční politice se konkrétní kroky obou prezidentů vůči Turecku významně neliší. Obamova deziluze ve vnímání vztahu USA a Turecka jako modelového partnerství výrazně změnila jeho vlastní politiku v druhém vládním období. V rámci NATO Trump navázal na Obamovu politiku vůči Turecku skrze podporu systému protiraketové obrany a pokračováním ve využívání amerických vojenských zařízení na tureckém území. Kurdská otázka představuje ve vztahu obou zemí nejkritičtější místo. Trump doposud podporoval spolupráci s Kurdy ve stejné míře jako Obama, ale dohody s Erdoğanem z poslední doby mohou přinést změnu tohoto přístupu a následné zlepšení vztahů. Odlišný Trumpův postoj k proměně tureckého politického prostředí nemá na kvalitu vztahů obou zemí významný vliv. Se zvyšujícím se vlivem Ruska a Íránu v turbulentním regionu Blízkého východu zůstává Turecko i navzdory současným špatným vztahům pro USA cenným strategickým partnerem.

Předběžná náplň práce v anglickém jazyce

This bachelor’s thesis deals with the comparison of Barack Obama‘s and Donald Trump’s policies towards Turkey in the context of the current crisis in the relationship with United States. The aim of the thesis is to answer the question of whether the policies of the two presidents were coherent and how the possible differences are reflected in today's deteriorating relations. The work focuses on three areas: cooperation inside NATO, the Kurdish minority issue, and the transformation of the domestic political situation in Turkey. The thesis argues that despite a different general approach to foreign policy, the concrete steps taken by both Presidents towards Turkey do not differ significantly. Obama's disillusionment with the perception of the U.S.-Turkey relationship as a model partnership has considerably changed his own policy in the second term. Within NATO, Trump followed up on Obama's policy towards Turkey through the support of the missile defense system and the ongoing use of US military facilities inside Turkey. The Kurdish question represents the most critical point in the relationship. Trump has so far supported Kurdish cooperation to the same extent as Obama, but recent agreements with Erdoğan may lead to a change in his approach and to a consequent improvement in relations. The different attitude of Trump’s towards the transformation of the Turkish political environment has no significant influence on the quality of relations between the two countries. With the increasing influence of Russia and Iran in the turbulent Middle East region, Turkey remains valuable U.S. strategic partner in spite of the current bad relations.
