In this work, I would like to focus on the not-quite-yet-solved problem of the supposedly mimetic relationship between some species of king snakes and coral snakes and on generalizing the issue of snake coloration and its consequences for evolutionary biology in both the neodarwinistic and especially the portmanistic sense. That is, if we cease to see coloration and patterns as necessary adaptations, we can find peculiar rules of self-design in the various appearances of snakes (or the outer showing of their inner and their self-presentation). I would also like to concentrate on the development of coloration and pattern during ontogenesis and on the distribution of colors which snakes display on their bodies.
