Grammatical evolution (GE) is a biologically-inspired evolutionary optimization algorithm. The goal of this thesis is to develop a framework for testing grammatical evolution as an optimization algorithm. The results of the thesis will consists of the implemented framework for GE and several benchmark application of GE such as symbolic regression and some novel ones. Focus will be put on clean, well-documented implementation and informative output of results both of which are lacking in the existing solutions. The results and all techniques and parameters used in experiments will be carefully documented and compared to existing research.
