The bachelor thesis focuses on the phenomenon of information obesity in women's health, specifically addressing the perceived impact of social media on everyday life from the perspective of young women. The aim of the thesis is to answer the question of how young women describe their experiences of information overload, particularly in relation to their health, and how these experiences affect their everyday lives. The research framework is primarily based on theories of media effects. Methodologically, the thesis is based on qualitative research conducted in the form of focus groups. The results of the analytical part of the thesis show that young women face information overload primarily on social media (on platforms such as Instagram or Tiktok), where verified health information is mixed with commercially motivated or otherwise misleading messages. This leads to confusion, uncertainty, and frustration for women trying to navigate the information, complicating their health-related decision-making processes. The author also identifies strategies women use to navigate online health information and how women generally try to avoid their own feelings of information overload. Finally, the paper concludes by emphasizing the need to promote media and health literacy and highlighting the importance of a critical approach to media content. |
