Research question and motivation
Main question of the thesis will be, how were impacted former colonies by lingering legacies left by their colonizers, and how much impact on institutions had foreign direct investments from colonizing country on them, and import/export dependency. Motivation and importance of this topic lies in idea that debate about impact of colonialism and its short-run and long-run effects, can be measured also by including foreign direct investments and import and export dependency. Contribution Contribution will lie in bringing new idea as to how look at legacies left by colonist countries. Methodology I will be mainly using Penn world tables, world bank data sets and institutional index from Polity IV as data sources, and will create models with dummy variables diffirentiated by colonizing countries, and estimating legacies with help of the foreign direct investments inflows and their trading dependency on colonizing country. I will describe in detail the methodology I am going to use to study my research question. |
