| Práce se bude věnovat proměně vlivu katolické církve na politiku Irské republiky v průběhu 20. století s důrazem na období po roce 1937. Cílem bude vybrat klíčové okamžiky zaznamenávající proměnu tohoto postavení a na nic dokumentovat, jak se vztah politických aktérů a církve v průběhu 20. století proměňoval s cílem interpretovat tuto změnu. |

| Klíčovou výzkumnou otázkou této práce je tedy: V jaké míře ovlivňovali katolická církev a její představitelé politiku Irské republiky, v období od jejího vzniku do současnosti?
Práce se pokusí využít materiálů dostupných v Irských Národních Archivech v Dublinu, se zaměřením na texty a záznamy pojednávající o zapojení, postojích a vlivu představitelů katolické církve a katolické církve jako takové, v politice Irské republiky, a to jak na regionální, tak na celostátní úrovni. Cílená data se budou týkat postojů katolické církve ke konkrétním problémům, a jakým způsobem, pokud vůbec, katolická církev a její představitelé dokázali využít svého potenciálního vlivu na politiku Irské republiky k prosazování svých zájmů a kýžených cílů. Skrze tyto příklady pak práce vyvodí závěry o tom, do jaké míry a skrze jaké prostředky katolická církev politiku Irské republiky ovlivňovala v období od roku 1937 až po současnost, a jak se míra tohoto vlivu proměňovala. Analyzovaná data se budou týkat výše popsané problematiky, tedy vlivu církve a církevních osobností na irskou politiku ovlivňující faktory. Vhodná data představují akademické publikace řešící problematiku vztahu Irská republika – katolická církev a biografie vlivných církevních osobností jako J. Ch. McQuaid. Relevantní budou také novinové články týkající se církve, a to články jak pozitivní, tak negativní, protože umožňují určit naladění veřejného míněni ve vztahu ke katolické církvi, ačkoliv předpokládám, že získat k dostatku takových dat přístup a vyvodit z nich závěry bude obtížné, vzhledem k velkému množství takových publikací a obtížnému určení, která data vliv církve prokazují. Dále pak legislativní záznamy o referendech, která se církev pokoušela skrze svůj vliv na veřejnost ovlivnit, a zejména výsledky těchto referend, s důrazem na to, jestli byl daný výsledek v souladu s cíli katolické církve, nebo naopak, například referendum o garanci práva nenarozených dětí na život, referendum o reformě úpravy umělého přerušení těhotenství nebo referendum o legalizaci rozvodů. |

| The key research question of this thesis is therefore: to what extent have the Catholic Church and its leaders influenced the politics of the Republic of Ireland, from its inception to the present day?
The thesis will attempt to make use of material available in the National Archives of Ireland, Dublin, focusing on texts and records dealing with the involvement, attitudes and influence of Catholic Church leaders, and the Catholic Church as a whole, in the politics of the Republic of Ireland, both at the regional and national level. The targeted data will relate to the attitudes of the Catholic Church on specific issues and how, if at all, the Catholic Church and its leaders have been able to use their potential influence on the politics of the Republic of Ireland to advance their interests and desired objectives. Through these examples, the thesis will then draw conclusions about the extent to which, and through what means, the Catholic Church has influenced the politics of the Republic of Ireland in the period from 1937 to the present, and how the degree of this influence has varied. The analysed data will relate to the issue described above, that is, the influence of the Church and Church figures on the factors influencing Irish politics. Suitable data include academic publications addressing the issue of the Republic of Ireland-Catholic Church relationship and biographies of influential Church figures such as J. Ch. McQuaid. Newspaper articles relating to the Church, both positive and negative, will also be relevant, as they provide a means of determining the mood of public opinion in relation to the Catholic Church, although I anticipate that it will be difficult to access sufficient such data and draw conclusions from it, given the large number of such publications and the difficulty of determining which data demonstrate the influence of the Church. Then there are the legislative records of referendums that the Church has attempted to influence through its influence on the public, and in particular the results of those referendums, with an emphasis on whether the result was in line with the goals of the Catholic Church or vice versa, for example, the referendum on guaranteeing the right to life of the unborn, the referendum on reforming the regulation of abortion, or the referendum on legalizing divorce. |
