In my thesis I would like to analyse If women are able to achieve work-life-balance (WLB). Normative assumptions and idea of WLB is male-centred, therefore, my argument is that this is not possible in the current understanding of WLB. Women must face a lot of obstacles and societal expectations; they are being judged if they devote themselves to work too much and to family. Due to these women are not able to be either perfect workers and perfect housewives. Comparing to men they deal with a lot of pressure. No one asks a male manager how he is connecting fatherhood with career. Another problem is with the WLB itself. The balance between work and life does not contain what really means family life. For a lot of women, it is just another full-time job. It means cooking, cleaning, doing shopping, laundry, taking care of kids or other family members. Usually, it does not mean time for rest, hobby, sports. In my opinion there is a need to de-construct WLB understanding. Family needs to be de-centred as well as divided from personal life. Work-life-balance should contain a separate part for work, life, and family. Family life and personal life should not be mixed. That is because in case of women their personal needs are completely marginalised. They always need to resign from something.
