Research question and motivation
The intended aim of the thesis is an economic analysis of the film industry in Czechoslovakia in the 1960s. The main research question I intend to study is whether the movies which belong to Czechoslovak New wave were profitable. As factors that could influence the film efficiency the state interventions, the filming time and the total cinema attendance will be examined.

In the theoretical part of my BA thesis, I would provide the historical context including the functioning of censorship. The film censorship in the 60s was mainly part of the production process, which had an impact on the strategy of film production (Skupa 2016). Then I would mention a few names, that had a politic influence on film production, for example, Alois Poledňák (director of Czechoslovak state film in the 1960s), who with his conforming personality could have affected the benevolence of censorship (Skupa 2016, Szczepanik 2016).It could be interesting to provide clustered data and meaningfully interpret them. This study could provide a basis for further research.


Contribution
There is already a lot of work about New Wave movies at that time in terms of art or history (Hames 2008), but since the film industry in Czechoslovakia in the 1960s is still not been analysed within the frame of economic analysis, it could bring a new perspective to light. Similar analysis has been done before within the scope of the interwar period (1918-1945) characterized by strong monopolization of the film industry (Doležalová and Moravcová 2020). However, economic analysis in Czechoslovakia of this kind with the film industry in state ownership has not been examined yet. I would like to restrict my study to the New Wave of Czechoslovak film to inspect the theme more profoundly.


Methodology
For historical context (including important persons influencing film industry) and censorship, I will use existing literature. I will use archival data from NFA (Národní filmový archiv), archival editions of the magazine Iluminace, or overviews and comparisons of the most important production data of the years 1960-1970. After gathering the data I will do the cost-benefit analysis of each movie and try to interpret the data altogether and the rest of the obtained data (filming time, cinema attendance, state support) interpret as well. Finally, I will make conclusions from all data gathered.
