Inbrední a outbrední deprese v populacích kriticky ohroženého druhu Minuartia smejkalii
Cílem práce po pochopit intenzitu inbrední a outbrední deprese v populacích kriticky ohroženého druhu Minuartia smejkalii. Projekt probíhá v rámci velkého aplikovaného projektu věnujícího se tomuto kriticky ohroženému druhu. Vhodné pro BP a navazující DP.
LIFE project for Minuartia focuses on the rescue of a critically endangered endemic plant species Minuartia smejkalii. An important part of project is the establishment of ex-situ populations. To do this, we must first assess the genetic diversity and the fitness of intrapopulation offspring and interpopulation hybrids, which includes notably studying the performance of different types of offspring.
More info:
Inbreeding depression (ID) is defined as a decrease in the fitness of an inbred individual compared to an outbred one, usually due to the exposition of recessive deleterious alleles in homozygotes. Outbreeding depression is a decrease in the fitness of outbred offspring compared to inbred one and can be a result of breaking down the locally adapted haplotypes through recombination. ID and OD can both accelerate the extinction of critically endangered populations by increasing the mortality rates of unfit offspring produced within populations or by crosses between populations respectively. Finally, hybridisation with other species can also contribute to the extinction of M. smejkalii if the hybrids are more performant than their parental species. The main aim of thesis will be
-testing of extent of inbreeding (ID) and outbreeding (OD) depression
-testing for an environment-dependent component in ID (i.e. difference in the magnitude of ID dependent on the local environment)
- estimating the fitness of hybrids with closely related species The study includes creating inbred, outbred and hybrid offspring by controlled crosses, measuring different life history traits from juvenile germination and survival to adult reproductive input (seed and if possible pollen production) in controlled environments and compare them with the same measures of plants in natural populations.
