Předběžná náplň práce |
Topic Characteristics:
My topic will focus on the evolution of the international relations between Iran and the United States in the context of the Nuclear Deal Framework. As Iran and the US have no diplomatic relations nowadays, I will attempt to demonstrate that the Nuclear Deal, if signed, could possibly warm up the relations between the two countries, as well as benefit the Middle East with a newfound stability – even if it could announce a regional proliferation. However, the geopolitical ambitions of both countries in the Persian Gulf is similar; expending and maintaining their influence. Therefore, they have to overcome their mutual distrust in order to cooperate and reach an agreement that would benefit both nations. Actors and main goals: Iran – Keeping and extending its influence within the Middle East, removing economic sanctions, becoming an international power, deterring external threats. US – Keeping and extending its influence in the Middle East, buffering Russia and China. Working hypotheses: 1. The Nuclear Deal will better Iran/US relations 2. The US’s new geopolitical strategy towards Iran is shifting from realist to liberal actions 3. The Nuclear Deal will make Iran a great economic and geopolitical power in the Middle East Methodology: I will try to verify/falsify my hypotheses based on a qualitative literature study as well as my own interpretations. I will follow a research process and will use a comparative method regarding the two countries strategies. I will also analyze the two countries’ different policies in order to empirically verify/falsify my hypotheses. Outline: 1 Introduction 2 Literature Review 3 The US’s Strategic Culture towards WMD 4 Iran’s Strategic Culture and Nuclear Ambitions 5 The Evolution of Iran-US Relations under the Nuclear Paradigm 6 US Foreign Policy towards Iran: from the Embargo to the Nuclear Deal 7 Concluding Thoughts 8 Bibliography |
