Předběžná náplň práce

Východiskem mé práce je velmi úspěšný britský seriál The Office, který byl díky své popularitě později převzat mnoha dalšími evropskými zeměmi. Ty si zpravidla vytvořily své národní verze. Nejúspěšnějším příkladem převzetí tohoto seriálu je bezesporu americká verze seriálu, a to především díky tomu, že se autoři nebáli výrazněji se odchýlit od svého britského protějšku a přepracovat seriál tak, aby odrážel americké reálie, způsob života, americkou mentalitu a americký humor – aby jednoduše v americkém prostředí fungoval, jako by se jednalo o seriál původní.

Hlavním cílem mé práce je na dvou národních verzích stejného seriálu poukázat na některé z hlavních kulturních odlišností mezi těmito zeměmi (Velká Británie a Spojené státy) a na základní odlišnosti v mentalitě obyvatel těchto zemí, především v oblasti pracovních vztahů. Dále bych ráda na základě seriálu nastínila některé ze současných otázek souvisejících s kulturou, které jsou ve Velké Británii a Spojených státech v současné době přítomny, opět hlavně v pracovní sféře. Jedna ze stěžejních kapitol práce bude věnována odlišnostem v humoru těchto dvou verzí, protože humor je jednou z nezanedbatelných složek kultury a o daném národu mnohé vypovídá.

Předběžná náplň práce v anglickém jazyce

My thesis is based on a very popular British series, The Office, which was, thanks to its popularity, adapted by many other European countries into their own national versions. The most successful example of adapting the series is the American version. It is mostly because its authors were not afraid of diverging from its British counterpart to a great extent, and of remaking the series so it would reflect the American way of life, mentality, and humour. To put it simply, to make the series work in the American environment as if it were an original series.

The main aim of the thesis is to highlight – on the basis of the series – some of the main cultural differences between the United Kingdom and the United States of America and the main differences in national mentalities, mainly in the workplace. I would also like to point out some of the current cultural issues which are present in the UK and the US, again, mainly in the workplace. One of the crucial chapters of the thesis will be addressing the differences between the humour of the two versions, because humour is an indispensable part of culture and a characteristic feature of a nation.
