| My thesis will focus on the Icelandic banking sector – on the development of Icelandic GDP and the biggest local banks before the crisis, their position with respect to the central bank in the small island country and the impact of the crisis and whether or not could it be foreseen and if so who is responsible for not doing so. The analysis of the impact of the crisis on the banking sector in particular, bankruptcies of banks (state), the solutions adopted would follow.
As a result should be a comprehensive study that would expose the errors made and can show the steps that would prevent similar future course. 1. Hypothesis #1: Position of banks in the small island country – how this particular situation, where the banks are larger than the central bank of a country, even occurred? Could this happen in other similar countries? What consequences does the size of banks in proportion to the country’s real economy have? 2. Hypothesis #2: Fast development of Iceland's economy before the crisis - how is it that no one seemed to be able to foreseen the problems? Who had to see it in order to avoid such impact? 3. Hypothesis #3: Was the scenario of saving the banks in Iceland optimal? 4. Hypothesis #4: What are the errors made, which would be avoided in the future to prevent a similar course of things? |
