| HelenOS is a microkernel operating system developed at MFF UK. Currently the system is not self-hosted because of the lack of the ability to install itself on a computer's hard drive.
The goal of this bachelor thesis is a prototype implementation of a library for working with MBR and GUID disk partitions, a partition editor and a port of GRUB Legacy and GRUB2 boot loaders for HelenOS. This allows to modify a hard drive, copy data onto it and install the boot loader to boot HelenOS from the hard drive on next boot. The thesis also contains an analysis of the software design, suitability and time constrains of specific implementation goals which lead to the prototype implementation. |
