Selected Problems of Contemporary History of LatinAmerica - Hana V. Bortlová, Ph.D. Tuesday 11 - 12: 30, Veleslavín (FTVS building, room FHS1, 3rd floor)
SUMMARY: The aim of the course is to give a brief overview of the contemporary history of Latin America (approximately from the Mexican Revolution to the War of the Malvinas/Falklands) and to outline and characterize the main time periods. It is expected that students will complement the lectures with their own study of recommended literature, literary texts and/or works of national cinematographies, extracts of which will be showed and reflected at the end of each class. Requirements: test, essay (written reflection of the course based on studied literature)
SYLLABUS Outline (12 classes) 1. Introduction - theme of the course, basic literature, Latin America as a subject of Ibero-American studies. 2. Mexican Revolution. 3. Latin America and WWI. 4. Inter-American Relations. 5. Revolutions of the half of 20th century part I (Guatemala) 6. Revolutions of the half of 20th century part II (Bolivia). 7. Revolutions of the half of 20th century part III (Cuba). 8. Cuban Missile Crisis. 9. Socialist Cuba in 1960s-1990s. 10. Argentina of Perón.11. Military Regimes of Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Brazil, Dirty War in Argentina in 1976-1983. 12. War of Falklands/Malvinas in 1982.
