Velké postavy středověké filosofie II

Kurs sestává ze dvou částí. Část 1 je vyučována v českém a část 2 v anglickém jazyce.

Část 1: Raný středověk a vrcholná scholastika

Tato část kursu je věnována několika významným představitelům západní raně středověké filosofie a vrcholné scholastiky (Jan Scotus Eriugena, Anselm z Canterbury, Tomáš Akvinský). Cílem je především ukázat, jakým způsobem si myslitelé období středověku osvojovali, rozvíjeli a transformovali tradici antické filosofie a patristiky. Účastníci kursu se mohou nejenom seznámit s podstatnou částí témat, jež jsou obsahem zkoušky ze středověké filosofie, ale také získat vhled do některých důležitých problémových okruhů západní filosofie a povědomí o kontinuitě filosofických tradic napříč staletími. Kurs je kombinací přednášky a četby vybraných pasáží z textů dotyčných autorů.

This course aims at providing students with a general introduction to the main themes of medieval philosophy between the second half of the 13th and the end of the 14th century. We will start off with the study of some questions from Henry of Ghent’s Summa ordinaria, which investigate the status of human cognition and, most particularly, its relation towards divine illumination. Henry’s position, which is a blend of Augustinianism and Aristotelianism, to make use of labels, will be attacked by many: for instance, by Peter John Olivi and John Duns Scotus. We will move on partially analyzing Olivi’s criticisms and focus on Scotus’: for the main innovation he introduces in the history of philosophical thought – the most famous thesis concerning univocity of being, which is strictly connected to the foundation of human natural science – can be read in contrast to Henry of Ghent.
