The course is conceived as an intersection and interaction of three axes:
1) literary-historical axis is a thread leading us through the process of cognition of the basic build-up material of the course. The factual knowledge is organized along the literary timeline. The overall development of French literature since WWI till nowadays is thus structured so that the presentation of the particular categories of literary phenomena such as authors, movements, trends, will always be firmly attached to the intersection of the two fundamental approaches to literature, diachronic and synchronic perspective. The actual subdivision to be found in the course annotation of the corresponding semester.
2) Methodical and analytic axis will provide a build-up of a rudimentary repertoire of terminology, technical abilities and methodical instruments and procedures crucial to cultivate the key professional competence: the ability to analyze a literary text and its relation to the general cultural symbol systems with focus on the technical tools for dealing with a literary text. This phenomenon was constructed chiefly by the structuralist and post-structuralist poetics, narratology, the theory of textuality and the French tradition of explication de texte.
3) Creative and interpretative axis represents a transition between the manual, technical level of explication and explanation to a higher perspective, whose main concern is a holistic cognitive and active experience of the polyvalence of a literary text which is not solely intellectual but also experiential. This perspective attempts to let the students live through a hermeneutic experience in order to penetrate into the complexity, the significant permeability and therefore the interpretative inexhaustibility of a symbol in general and the versatility of its interpretation. The concept of an open piece of work will enable us to reflect on the participation of the interpreter in the construction of meaning and to question the limits and horizons of our presence in the semiotic universe. The presupposition of the irreducible openness of text is the basis of this three-semester course, forming a platform for realization of freedom of thought and maturing of all the participants, as well as flourishing of their spiritual creativity.
