PhD candidate will investigate low-temperature spectroscopy of two-dimensional (2D) material/metal heterostructures. The focus of the dissertation will be on Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy, however, photoemission spectroscopy will also be employed in collaboration with another institute. The candidate will explore monolayers of transition metal dichalcogenides such as MoS2, WS2, MoSe2, and WSe2, interfaced with metallic substrates including Au, Ag, Pt, Pd, Cu, Ni, and Co. These heterostructures exhibit strong van der Waals interaction, which manifests itself through stark changes in the physical properties of the 2D material detectable via a variety of characterization techniques. Low-temperature measurement will enable the candidate to elucidate the fundamental phenomena governing the physics of these systems. The candidate is required to have a Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline. |
