Dr S Jaishankar, current Minister of External Affairs of India, also stated that India needs to focus more on the Indian Ocean as the geopolitical structure of the Indo-Pacific region is getting more important (Jaishankar, 2020). The thesis is focused on the Bay of Bengal-Andaman region which is located in the Indian Ocean area connecting the South and South-East Asian region. This thesis is focused on the period between 2014 and 2024.

Hypotheses:
1. The role and influence of India as a major power country would be important in shaping the geopolitical structure of the Bay of Bengal region.
2. Bay of Bengal region, on the other hand, would be the most important geopolitical realm for India in becoming major power and establishing as regional hegemon.

Methodology:
This thesis is applied the deductive methodology. This thesis will be mainly based on Cohen’s Geopolitics: Geography of International Relations. Firstly, this thesis discusses the geographical setting of the Bay of Bengal-Andaman region such as the region is located at which part of the Indo-Pacific region and its connection with the South and Southeast Asia region.
According to Cohen there are four pillars which need to be for the power of a nation which are military, economy, ideological leadership, and cohesive system of governance (Cohen, 2015). Moreover, there are five hierarchical orders in which major and regional power stand at first and second order (Cohen, 2015). In this thesis, India is selected and analysed to find out whether it is becoming the major power according to their capacity such as population density, economy and geographical setting, and ambitions. This part will be mainly analysed based on the four pillars as mentioned by Cohen.
After finding out the major power, this thesis then analyses the geopolitical structure of the region. According to Cohen, the geopolitical structures are composed of geopolitical patterns and features (Cohen, 2015). The geopolitical patterns include shape, size, and physical/human geographical characteristics of the geopolitical units and the networks that tie them together (Cohen, 2015). In this thesis, the role of regional organizations and the role of major and regional powers in those organizations is analysed to find out the geopolitical pattern especially the geopolitical units and the network in the region. As Cohen stated the following geopolitical features need to be considered for a region: Historic or Nuclear Cores, Capitals or Political Centers, Ecumenes, Effective National Territory (ENT) and Effective Regional Territory (ERT), Empty Areas, Boundaries, and Nonconforming Sectors (Cohen, 2015). This thesis analysis these features to depict the current geopolitical features of the Bay of Bengal-Andaman region.
After that, there is evaluation and analysis of the role of major power in shaping the geopolitical setting of Bay of Bengal-Andaman region. This analysis will be based on capacity and ambitions of the major and regional power and how they could shape the geopolitical pattern, features, and structure of the Bay of Bengal-Andaman region and vis-à-vis how the Bay of Bengal-Andaman region could be important for India in establishing as regional hegemon. Moreover, Brzezinski argued that the cooperation between India’s rival countries such as China and Pakistan also limiting India’s ability in the region (Brzezinski, 1997). Therefore, the dilemma and limitation of India would also be analysed in this thesis and again the importance of Bay of Bengal region for India in overcoming these dilemmas and limitations will also be analysed. These analyses are mainly based on documentary analysis, and causal analysis. The primary sources such as the policy paper, regional outlook paper, and surveys will be mainly used for the documentary analysis.
