| Oberpfalzerová, Hana, Ullrich, Johannes a Jeřábek, Hynek, This research aims at contributing to the debate on dealing with the past versus social forgetting. The authors study the NGO initiative “My Story” that promotes reconciliation in Bosnia through storytelling by war victims. Listeners of the stories have reported a positive attitude change while the negative impacts were minimal. Empathy seems to be the key mechanism. Some respondents advocated social forgetting. These authors sustain that this initiative can deconstruct some parts of conflict narratives and attitudes that prevent reconciliation. This is a nonviolent form of dealing with the past in a country where no truth commission will probably ever be founded and where past traumas contribute to mobilization for war instead of being truly forgotten.
