SP characteristics

The aim of the M.Sc. study program Geology is the education of experts who have detailed knowledge of the rock environment, its geological structure, interactions with the atmosphere, hydrosphere, pedosphere and biosphere and processes controlling migration of substances in these environments. The study program is divided into following specializations: geology, paleontology, geochemistry, environmental geology, mineralogy and crystallography, mineral resources, petrology, structural geology, geoarchaeology. Teaching geology has a long tradition at the Faculty of Science and the course structure meets today's requirements with focus on high-quality research. Leading experts from both academic institutions and private sector participate in teaching. The Geology section is fully equipped with modern scientific instruments and collaborates with numerous Czech and foreign institutions in fundamental and applied geoscience and environmental research.

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduates acquire fundamental knowledge about protection of environmental compartments (rock environment, water, atmosphere, soil, geomaterials) and skills necessary for the geological and environmental data treatment (acquisition, processing and proper interpretation of information). The graduates are able to perform geological investigations according to the requests of the state geological survey (prospecting, mining and protection of natural resources) according to their specializations (geochemistry, environmental geology, mineralogy and crystallography, mineral resources, geology, palaeontology, geodynamics, geoarchaeology) They can also work for other academic research institutions, private companies as well as state authorities in the field of natural resources and environmental protection.
