SP characteristics

"Theoretical physics" means rather an approach to scientific investigation than the specific branch of physics. It is methodologically applied in almost all branches of physics and astronomy, in natural sciences and in advanced technological applications. The study program "Theoretical physics" acquaints students with mathematical methods and fundamental pillars of modern physics, in particular the statistical physics, the theory of relativity and quantum theory. According to the topic of the diploma thesis, students are introduced to the theoretical background of other areas of physics such as plasma physics, astrophysics and cosmology, atomic and molecular physics, condensed matter physics or high energy physics.

Graduate profile for the public:
Graduates have a very good knowledge of the essential theories of modern physics – quantum theory, theory of relativity and statistical physics. Due to the breadth of the optional lectures that are offered, they can gain deep erudition in a number of special branches of theoretical physics. On the other hand, the knowledge of generally applicable advanced mathematical methods ensures wide adaptability, that is the capacity to assert oneself not only in various physics areas but also in other fields and in activities which require logical thinking and analysis of complicated problems.
