The main goal of the program at our department is to help create experts in the field of civil society and non-profit sector in the Czech Republic and abroad. The program´s expertise is derived mainly from sociology but also from political science, economy, philosophy and anthropology. The course of the study program is focused on the relevant approaches to theories of civil society, organizational theory, micro-sociology and social policy as well as methodology of sociological research and gaining knowledge about the current state of affairs and practical problems in the field of study. The essential part of the program is the focus on specialized fields of study related to civil society and non-profit sector abroad. The subjects chosen by our students for their final thesis reflect the interdisciplinary approach to the field of civil society and non-profit sector. This study program is unique, not only at Charles University but in the Czech Republic as well.

Graduate profile for the public:
Graduates in NMgr. SP Civil Society Studies are experts who can identify and organize basic contemporary knowledge about civil society and the non-profit sector and have practically applicable sociological knowledge. They know the latest research results related to the field of study abroad as well as in the Czech Republic. They have knowledge of civil society organizations in the Czech Republic, the EU and the world. They are able to engage in research activities, to prepare projects and publicly promote the philanthropic and humanitarian activities of civil society organizations. The graduates are well prepared for management and conceptual functions in civil society organizations and have a proper qualification for working in positions in all spheres where the knowledge of civil society organizations is a necessity.
