SP characteristics

The study program of Animal Physiology deals with physiological phenomena at the whole organismal level or body systems, as well as individual organs or tissues. This is a highly complex field characterized by interdisciplinary approach to studying the life processes and their regualtions. It integrates the knowledge of physical principles, biochemical reactions and cellular mechanisms to study organs, organ systems and their functions, as well as complex regulation of body processes. In parallel, it systematically combines, elaborates and integrates information from many related disciplines, including molecular, cellular and developmental biology, functional anatomy, morphology, pathology, biochemistry and biophysics. Physiological research uses different molecular biology, biochemical and physical methods, including various electrophysiological and microscopic techniques.

Graduate profile for the public:
Animal physiology graduate has advanced knowledge of animal and human biology, including a thorough knowledge of body structure and functions. He/she is familiar with integrative physiological functions of the whole organism and their regulations as well as with the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying complex physiological processes. He/she also has a good undestanding of related disciplines such as cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, toxikology and imunology. He/she is familiarized with physiological research methods and is capable of implementing them in biomedical sphere. His/her ability of abstract and creative thinking can be used in both basic or applied research at universities, in scientific institutes and biotechnological centres as well as in medical institutions and pharmaceutical industry.
