SP characteristics
The master program Cell Biology provides education in cell biology in the wider context of life sciences and prepares students for the entry into doctoral level programs in life sciences and biomedicine. Cell biology encompasses studies on the cellular level of the organization of life. Cell, the conceptual basis of biology, as well as ensembles of cells and their mutual interactions are in the center of interest. The understanding of molecular principles determining cellular behavior is prerequisite for any treatment of cellular pathologies. Cell biology thus becomes the first battlefield for important areas of biomedicine such as cancer biology, neurobiology or cell immunology.

Graduate profile for the public:
The alumni of the study program have extensive knowledge of current cell biology, including cellular architecture, the principles of cellular regulations and intercellular communications, the characteristics of specialized cell types and the regulations in the contexts of tissues. Cell biology insight is complemented by the knowledge of molecular physiology, developmental and cancer cell biology. The alumni have acquired skills and capacity to orient themselves in scientific literature and propose experiments and experimental plans based on critical analysis of the current knowledge in the field. They are prepared for opportunities in basic as well as oriented or applied research, including the sector of health sciences and biotechnologies.
