SP characteristics

Master’s Degree Program "Parasitology" focuses on the major groups of medically and veterinarily important eukaryotic parasites, especially parasitic protists, arthropods and helminths and their vectors. The program studies all aspects of parasites’ life, especially their physiology, cell and molecular biology and biochemistry, interactions with hosts primarily at the molecular level, pathogenicity, epidemiology, ecology, morphology, taxonomy, diagnostics and therapy principles. Vectors are studied especially in terms of their ability to transmit different parasites, their taxonomy, distribution and ecology. The study program examines parasitic organisms and their vectors using both classical and modern molecular approaches typical for experimental biological and biomedical disciplines. In addition to specialized theoretical education, the program graduate gains practical experience and skills in formulating scientific hypotheses and their verification during their own experimental work with parasitic organisms.

Graduate profile for the public:
Graduate of the Master's Degree Program "Parasitology" has a comprehensive knowledge of parasitic organisms, especially protists, helminths and arthropods, particularly their morphology, ecology, molecular biology, biochemistry and physiology, pathogenicity, epidemiology and diagnostics. He/she has practical experience with general biological work methodology, including state-of-the-art molecular, biochemical and immunological techniques. The graduates are able to formulate and experimentally test scientific hypotheses and solve theoretical and practical questions related to the detection and identification of parasites, their biology, interactions with hosts and drugs.
