SP characteristics

Biochemistry is a scientific field engaged in the study of physiological and pathological processes in living organisms on the molecular level. The Master study program in Biochemistry is designed as a subsequent study following the Bachelor program. It is focused on the extension of theoretical knowledge in the different fields of biochemistry and molecular biology. Moreover, the students are encouraged to be involved in the scientific research completing by the Master thesis. This study program offers a broad variety of optional courses which helps to create a student’s specialization. In addition to work on the Master thesis, the students could obtain further experimental experiences during an internship at cooperating departments where they solve research projects depending on the laboratory specialization.

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduate of the Master study program in Biochemistry is educated in biochemistry from the theoretical background to extensive experimental skills. Depending on the selected specialization, the graduate will extend the knowledge in molecular biology and genetics, xenobiochemistry, clinical biochemistry, and enzymology. Scientific research and the courses performed during the study program completed by the Master thesis, prepare the student for the subsequent scientific specialization. The graduates are prepared to use advanced experimental techniques commonly used in biochemical and molecular-biological laboratories. In addition to the Master thesis, the students could obtain further experimental experiences during an internship at cooperating departments, where they solve research projects depending on the laboratory specialization. Moreover, they participate in a particular research group, where they design and realize experiments. The graduates can therefore evaluate, present, discuss and defend experimental results in oral and written form.
The graduate is prepared to solve scientific problems in subsequent doctoral study, as well as perform research in the various scientific or scholar laboratories in the Czech Republic or abroad.
The graduate can be employed in the university or clinical laboratories, in pharmaceutical institutions, at government departments, as well as in the national or international commercial sphere, such as companies distributing chemical, pharmaceutical products or laboratory appliances.
