SP characteristics
Biochemistry is a scientific field engaged in the study of physiological and pathological processes in living organisms on the molecular level. The Bachelor study program in Biochemistry is designed as a multidisciplinary field focused on education of professionals with principal knowledge in chemistry (inorganic, analytical, organic and physical chemistry) as well as in biology, mathematics, and physics. Education of biochemistry, molecular biology, and biomedicine within Bachelor study program is conceived in a range that expects the further extension of theoretical knowledge in the follow-up study program or at a particular scientific laboratory. In addition to biochemical and microbiological practical courses, students can choose various types of chemical practical courses (inorganic, analytical, physical and organic chemistry) according to their further scientific specialization.

Graduate profile for the public:
A graduate of Bachelor study program in Biochemistry has a principal knowledge of natural sciences, especially in the inorganic, analytical, organic and physical chemistry. During this program, the graduate is educated theoretically as well as practically in toxicology, applied biochemistry, biomedicine, molecular biology and genetics. The graduate gains experience in the approaches used in the biochemical, microbiological or molecular-biological laboratories. The graduate is prepared for scientific research by selecting specialized courses and collaboration on a Bachelor project. He/she usually participates at a particular research group, where he/she learns how to design and realize experiments, adequately discuss and defend the obtained results in oral and written form. Therefore, the graduate is prepared to solve problems in the subsequent Master degree as well as in the commercial sphere. Due to the profiling of the study program, it is supposed the follow-up study for the majority of Bachelor students. Nevertheless, the graduate is educated theoretically as well as practically during this program completed by the Bachelor thesis. He/she is therefore prepared for the participation in laboratories of various scientific institutes or universities, in the departments of the state administration or in the commercial sphere, such as companies distributing chemical and pharmaceutical products or laboratory devices.
