The bachelor’s study programme in General Linguistics provides an introduction into the theory and practice of language and speech as a vehicle for human communication. The programme aims at providing students with a grounding in all fundamental domains of language, including phonetics and phonology, morphosyntactic structures and their functions, textual composition and embodiment in human cognition. Language is studied synchronically and diachronically. Among other things, the programme offers training in the processing of linguistic material, including work with language corpora and the basics of acoustic analysis of the speech signal and perceptual analysis of speech.

Graduates of the bachelor’s programme in General Linguistics have a solid understanding of the main aspects of verbal communication. They understand the nature and breadth of the field, including both the main domains of linguistic analysis and their interdisciplinary aspects, and are equipped with basic skills required in present-day linguistic research.
