The Intensive Care study program prepares graduates, so they can practice independently as providers, leaders and teachers for intensive care nurses in all workplaces providing all types of specialized anesthesia, intensive and resuscitation care.
A graduate of the Intensive Care Masters program manages the technical and non-technical skills necessary for the daily care of critically ill patients, including management of all the technical equipment and instruments, intervention and assistance, and confident in crisis situations, including work in a multidisciplinary team. Graduates are able to communicate professionally and to participate in the formulation of treatment plans, including end of life decision making. At the same time, they will learn the basics of human resource management, health management and scientific work so that they are ready for management, training and academic positions.
The study program is designed in a modular way. The modules are divided into subjects where students acquire specific competencies.
Module Theoretical Basics of Intensive Care: Structure and Function of the Human Body, Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy for Intensive Care Nurses, and Fundamentals of Microbiology and Epidemiology.
Module Propedeutics of Intensive Care: General principles of care for the critically ill, Ensuring and care of the airways, Nutrition and control of blood glucose, Rehabilitation and early mobilization, Cannulation techniques, Transport of the critically ill, Medical technology.
Respiratory Failure Module: Pathophysiology of Respiratory Failure, Non-Invasive Ventilation Support, Artificial Lung Ventilation, Extracorporal Methods, and Weaning.
Module Shock and Circulation: Shock, Cardiology and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
Dialysis Module: Dialysis and Environmental Influences.
Anesthesiology Module: Introduction to Anesthesiology, Neuroaxial and Regional Techniques, Special Anesthesiology, and Treatment of Chronic Pain.
Neurointensive Care Module: Pathophysiological basics of neurointensive care, Traumatic Brain Injury and Non-traumatic intracranial catastrophes.
Module Surgical Patient: Patient Care after Surgery, Acute Pain, Polytrauma and Sepsis.
Module of Non-Technical Skills: Ethics and principles of patient care at the end of life, Fundamentals of crisis resource management, Evidence-based medicine and clinical research in intensive care, and Diploma Thesis Seminar.

Graduate profile for the public:
In accordance with Government Regulation No. 31/2010 and in accordance with Decree No. 55/2011 Coll. on the activities of healthcare workers and other professional staff, the graduate of specialized training in the field of Intensive Care is prepared to carry out, ensure and coordinate basic, specialized and highly specialized nursing care in intensive care. He/she is entitled, on the basis of his/her own assessment and decision, to provide intensive care in accordance with valid legislation to the extent of his/her specialized competences determined by the activities he/she is prepared on the basis of this educational program and the valid legislation. The graduate will have a wide range of competencies in resuscitation, intensive and anesthesiological care, detailed below. The graduate will be entitled to provide, teach, supervise and organize nursing care within the scope of his/her competences and to perform the activities he/she is prepared on the basis of this study program and the applicable legislation, on the basis of his/her own assessment and decision in accordance with applicable legal standards. He/she is able to effectively develop a professional field, to participate in the support of the creative atmosphere in the workplace and, in the institution, to systematically approach problem solving.
