The Doctoral Programme: Christian Art History focuses on the research and independent creative activities within the field of visual arts history in the context of Christian history and tradition. The attention is paid to the interdisciplinary connections between history and its related subjects such as History, Church History, Auxiliary Sciences of History, Archaeology, Christian Iconography, and Liturgy. The aim of the study is the Visual Arts in different time periods with the respect to their links with Christianity.

The education in the doctoral subject of study "History of Christian Art" gives the graduate intellectual and lawful qualifications or teaching the history of art at philosophical and theological faculties, for work at specialized art-historical places of work (The Institute of History of Art at the Academy of Science, institutes for Care of Historical Monuments, departments of the National Gallery or regional galleries), in editing magazines or books or to work as a connoisseur of works of art. The graduate will gain the experience in scientific art-historical research and he/she is capable of independent scientific work.
