SP characteristics

The Ph.D. program in Slavic Literature Studies at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague focuses on research in Slavic literatures as an integral part of European and world literature and culture. The Ph.D. program, which is logically connected to the respective Master’s programs in East, South East and Central European literatures, places particular emphasis on their intercultural aspects, especially with regard to their communication with non-Slavic cultures and literatures. We also do research in other fields, such as literary reflection of historical experience, trauma and cultural memory of Slavic cultures in the context of political and ideological manipulations in the 20th century, different forms of postcolonial (global) view of the world from the Middle Ages to the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Besides, the Ph.D. program covers the scientific context of particular national literatures in terms of analytical perspectives of European scientific approach.

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduate has been trained to indendependent scientific work and acquainted with methodology of the subject field literary science used both in particular national,and in the European and world context; he/she has become acquainted also with the development of the literary science ideas. He/she is an expert of the concrete national literature and has a knowledge of other European literatures. He/she has extended his/her knowledge of analytical thinking and judgement and he/she is able to formulate not only texts in scientific but also in informational or medial way.He/she has learnt to work with information, to classify and analyze them. He/she is capable of scientific communication, to attend conferences and scientific discussions. He/she is able to take part in media and communicate his/her opinions.
