Disciplina linguistica corpora sermonum indagans et theoretica

SP characteristics
The programme revolves around synchronic and diachronic study of individual natural languages (either separately or from a comparative perspective), using exact and formal methods utilized by modern linguistics to process vast amounts of linguistic data through modern computer technologies.
The programme is designed to enhance theoretical linguistic expertise, providing graduates with a knowledge of modern methods in linguistic research and thus preparing them for highly specialized and independent research in natural languages processing using corpora data. Furthermore, students will get a grounding in research ethics and academic work (by participating in conferences, academic exchanges and publication as well as editing activities).

Graduate profile for the public:
Graduates of the doctoral programme in Corpus and Theoretical Linguistics can pursue careers in research and tertiary education institutions focused on natural language processing: from editing and publishing, to translation and production of texts, to demanding, computer-based linguistic research and development of computer applications closely linked to natural language (dictionaries and corpora, spell check and grammar checking systems, computer thesauri, data retrieval, communication with databases in natural language, etc.). Graduates have a good grounding in modern linguistics and its mathematical and computer methods within this integrated discipline that teaches graduates to think about languages in a modern way and to process them with the use of modern lingware technologies.
