SP characteristics

The study area of Philosophy allows the student to develop an individual path among philosophical specialisations fostered at the Institute of Philosophy and Religious Studies, CU FA, which comprise the history of ancient, medieval, renaissance and modern philosophy, ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of religion, phenomenology, analytical philosophy and problems of contemporary thought. The Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic—thanks to an agreement of extended accreditation—is a co-participant in the doctoral programme. The aim of the study is to produce highly-educated experts who, in the course of their preparation, have displayed an ability to develop knowledge in a creative way. To this end the student must produce and defend an original dissertation, which makes a contribution to the discipline, and must pass the state doctoral examinations. The doctoral student achieves these goals through an individual study plan which is shaped by the principles of autonomous scientific activity.

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduate is able to understand not only the specific streams of thought in history, but also the timeless questions which lie beyond the focus of experimental and social sciences. He or she is able to reflect upon and interpret significant themes of the current time in the context of the past and from the viewpoint of contemporary thinking. This education will enable the graduate to formulate a standpoint that is an original contribution to the philosophical, cultural, ethical and political problems of an open society, and will, in addition, possess the skills necessary to undertake the critical resolution of problems in a dialogue with others.
