SP characteristics

Ibero-American studies constitute part of the study program Historical Sciences. But the bases of Ibero-American studies are interdisciplinary, focusing on the geographical and cultural-historical region of Latin America. From the point of view of present-day geopolitics Latin America belongs to the regions whose importance in global context increases continuously, from the point of view of demography, economy as well as politics. The principal research interests are: a) formation of present-day Latin American societies in their geographical-historical dimension; b) the characteristics of specific culture (in the widest anthropological sense, i.e. also politics, society, economy) that merges the traditions of Iberian nations with those of the pre-Colombian civilizations and, in some areas, also the subsequent voluntary and forced migrations from Africa and Asia.

Graduate profile for the public:
The goal of the study program is the education of specialists who during their studies command not only a profound knowledge of their chosen theme, but also the general context of Latin America, which enables them to understand and explain the historical as well as present-day processes and problems. Therefore, the concept of the study program accentuates the interdisciplinary approach even though at the same time the concentration on given topic is necessary, through the study of theoretical concepts, research methods and the profound knowledge of facts. Their knowledge of English and Spanish (or Portuguese) language enables them to study relevant literature, participate at discussions at international scientific forums and publish in academic journals; at the same time they are able to work with sources for their respective topics.
