SP characteristics

Modern economic and social history belongs to the study programme of History. It provides an academic and research background for advancing one of the most innovative fields of history. Moreover, modern economic and social history is an important bridge in interdisciplinary cooperation, offering explanations of the most important processes in modern history. The aim is to prepare highly educated experts in the field of modern economic and social history and to cultivate their ability to creatively develop the field. The study brings together classical approaches to topics and methods in economic and social history, oriented towards socio-economic structures and developments, with contemporary research trends, particularly those inspired by the cultural turn. This results in research focused on transformations of collective agency – regularities in agency and conflict dynamics, aiming at explaining the reproduction and transformations of (economic and social) structures. The concept which has recently become an integral part of modern economic and social history is technical and technological change, particularly technology transfer, adoption and adaptation.
