The doctoral programme revolves around independent creative work in research and development; its objective is to enhance the doctoral students’ ability to engage in independent and critical research, deepen their knowledge of the political, economic, social and cultural development of human society, and cultivate their ability to apply practical skills and theoretical expertise. Encouraging the students’ individual study in particular, the programme cultivates their skills in working with sources, their critical approach to specialist writings and their ability to reflect research problems.

Graduates of the doctoral programme in History/General History are equipped for independent and critical research, and possess a thorough knowledge of the political, economic, social and cultural development of human society; they possess skills in working with published and unpublished sources, and the ability to adopt a critical approach to specialist writings, conduct basic research, produce theoretical generalisations and apply creative thinking to the analysis of historical facts and processes. Graduates possess a thorough grounding in the discipline’s facts and methods, enabling independent and informed interpretation of history, critical interpretation of historical sources and writings, and independent approach to problem-solving in research. Graduates possess comprehensive knowledge enabling them to seek highly specialised positions in humanities-oriented universities, research centres, museums and education/training institutions providing students or staff with systematic development of knowledge.
