SP characteristics

The study programme in Prehistoric and Medieval Archaeology develops theoretical, methodological and empirical foundations for independent scientific work, transcending current knowledge in the field. The emphasis is on the understanding of the social, economic and cultural diversity of past human societies in all their entirety and dynamics, and appreciating the active role of material culture, the primary focus of the programme being on Europe. Of crucial importance are the links with related humanities oriented towards artefacts, anthropology and history, with relevant natural sciences and monument care.

Graduate profile for the public:
The Ph.D. graduate in „Archaeology of Prehistory and Middle Ages“ has mastered all the basic components of archaeological work. He/she has a good understanding of issues relating to archaeological cultural heritage, applies methods reflecting the current state of the discipline and produces documentation that meets required standards. He/she has mastered the basic principles of criticism of archaeological resources and applies them in the interpretation of these resources and is also familiar with the domestic and broader European cognition context. He/she makes resources available in the required manner, is able to formulate new findings and prepare their technical publication. The Prehistoric and Mediaeval Archaeology graduate is trained to be able to work in all types of archaeological institutions as well as in relevant public administration bodies.
