SP characteristics

The study programme allows the students to follow one of the specializations pursued at the Institute for Philosophy and Religious Studies, i.e. especially Judaism, Buddhism, ancient Greek religion, religion of the ancient Near East, phenomenology of religion, anthropology of religion, sociology of religion and psychology of religion. The aim is to prepare highly educated experts in the field of religious studies, who in the course of their study learn to creatively develop their knowledge. The study programme is primarily designed for students who are already well versed in at least one religious area, are able to study its sources in original languages, and are thus well equipped for writing a PhD thesis that meets international standards of quality and depth. At the same time students are expected to have good knowledge of general theories of religion and to be capable of reflecting their own methods of interpretation. The students are generally encouraged to write their theses in English and to consult them with international experts.
