SP characteristics
The Ph.D. programme in Romance Languages introduces the students into the synchronic and diachronic study of French, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese and their regional varieties using modern linguistic methods and taking into consideration the contrastive point of view. The aim is to deepen the students’ theoretical and methodological knowledge and prepare them for individual research in linguistics or philology of a particular Romance language. The programme also emphasizes scientific grounding in general linguistics focusing on a specific linguistic discipline (phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, contrastive and historical linguistics). According to the topic of their Ph.D. thesis, students are guided towards acquiring and improving their knowledge in functional sentence perspective, stylistics and rhetoric, semantics and semiotics of a Romance language. Students will also master the basic habits and methods of scientific research (participation in conferences, research fellowships etc.). The objective is to prepare qualified specialists and introduce them to the scientific approach to the disciplines of their choice.
