SP characteristics
The study programme is designed for graduates of social sciences and history, enabling them to further develop advanced theoretical knowledge and methodological skills at the intersection of sociology and history. In sociology, the programme is grounded in the study of long-term processes, with attention to their economic, social, and cultural dimensions, as well as to social inequalities, including their cultural and symbolic aspects. In history, the programme focuses primarily on “history from below,” comparative history, long-term processes, and the application of sociological theories to historical research. The structure of the programme provides substantial scope for students to shape their own academic profile within defined fields and thematic areas, while also offering opportunities during their studies to conduct empirical research on contemporary or historical social phenomena. The programme places strong emphasis on the applicability of acquired theoretical knowledge through its integration into research practice.

Graduate profile for the public:
Graduates possess advanced knowledge in selected thematic areas at the intersection of sociology and history. They have an overview of the theoretical, thematic, and methodological fields of these disciplines and understand the possibilities and limitations of empirical research methods. They have detailed practical experience with selected research methods and with the implementation of an empirical research project. They are able to apply a critical and historicizing perspective in the interpretation of contemporary social phenomena, while at the same time drawing on current approaches in social theory in the analysis of the past. Based on their understanding of social processes and comparative methodology, they develop the ability to think about alternative forms of social organization and possible trajectories of future development. Beyond academia, graduates find employment particularly in the fields of strategic and conceptual analysis, public administration, state administration and local government institutions, national and supranational organizations (including European Union institutions), analytical units, think tanks, cultural and educational institutions, and the non-profit sector.
