SP characteristics

The goal of the PhD studies in mathematics education is to prepare qualified researchers focusing on the study of problems connected with the mathematics education at the primary and secondary levels and with the preparation of mathematics teachers. Graduates can develop new knowledge in the field at scientific institutes and universities and can teach mathematics education courses at faculties preparing teachers. They can improve the quality of teaching mathematics by basic research or by writing textbooks based on research results and working at schools. They can create an inspiring environment for other teachers there, which can lead to the cooperation among teachers and contribute to the cultivation of mathematical education.

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduate of the PhD studies in mathematics education can deal with theoretical and application problems in the mathematical education of children and adults and carry out scientific and pedagogical activities. He/she contributes to the improvement of mathematical education of pupils and to the professionalization of teachers. He/she can work at universities, in scientific institutes and as a highly qualified teacher-mediator between research and practice. He/she is able to: recognize key topics of the field; carry out research with original results; follow and appraise local and international scientific literature; publish results in journals, at local and international conferences, in textbooks and possibly in monographs.
