This programme is conceived as language and culture studies focusing on the Visegrád Four
countries, and the Romani people in Central Europe. The programme offers specialization in Hungarian, Polish, Romani and Slovak studies, depending on the student’s individual choice. All students obtain knowledge of the variability of the chosen language and knowledge of the contemporary literature and culture. In addition, the programme enables the acquisition of practical language skills in the chosen language at C1–C2 level (according to the CEFR). Students studying only this programme acquire theoretical background and practical skills in translation between Czech and the chosen language, and also language skills in another language (to be selected out of contact and minority languages of Central Europe offered) at the A2–B1 level (according to the CEFR). Students are, therefore, equipped with a combination of factual, theoretical, analytical and language knowledge, applicable in a number of professional fields.

Hungarian Studies: Graduates possess a language competence in Hungarian at C1–C2 level (according to the CEFR) and theoretical knowledge of the variability of the Hungarian language, are well versed in Hungarian literature, and are able to integrate their competences and Hungary-related knowledge when processing and critically evaluating information. They have a theoretical background in translation and interpretation and are able to translate between Hungarian and Czech. They are knowledgeable in the current trends in Hungarian studies and have a command of another Central European language at least at the A2 level (according to the CEFR). Graduates are, therefore, prepared for the needs of various professional fields, such as cultural and social activities, media, education, civil society and consulting for commercial as well as non-profit organizations.

Romani Studies: Graduates possess a language competence in North Central Romani at C2 level (according to the CEFR) and theoretical knowledge of the variability of Romani language, they are well versed in the history of Romani people in Czechoslovakia, Romani culture, literature and anthropology, and they are able to integrate these competences and knowledge when processing and critically evaluating information. They have theoretical background in the methodology of field research and are able to translate between North Central Romani and Czech. They have a command of Vlax Romani dialect and another Central European language at least at the A2 level (according to the CEFR). Graduates are, therefore, prepared for the purposes of various professional fields, such as cultural and social activities, media, education, civil society and consulting for commercial as well as non-profit organizations.
