SP characteristics

The Germanic and North European Studies programme is primarily based on linguistics and literary studies and their interdisciplinary conjunction with historical sciences and other cultural disciplines. This focus manifests itself in the development of advanced practical knowledge and theoretical reflection of the chosen language (German, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Dutch or Finnish), as well as the training of skills to analyse and interpret texts of various types and to communicate in a given social and cultural framework. The programme is divided into German, Scandinavian, Finnish and Dutch specialisations. The study of all the involved philological disciplines builds on a rich tradition at Charles University and relates to the research activities and various forms of international cooperation at the Department of Germanic Studies.
