The Master’s degree programme “Central and Eastern Europe: History, Politics, Culture”, offered in Czech and German by the Faculty of Arts of Charles University and Ludwig Maxmillian Universität München, provides students of both universities with exclusive education and competencies in key social science disciplines (history, art history, history of literature and literary studies, political science), with a focus on acquiring a profound knowledge of history, culture and societies. It is primarily a history-focused programme, but in addition to understanding the history of the region, it seeks to convey a more general and comparative knowledge, focusing on the culture and societies of East Central Europe.

Studying in Munich and Prague opens the door to the intellectually rich world of German and Czech historical scholarship and related disciplines. Graduates of this study programme will thus be optimally prepared to find employment in (German, Czech, and other) professional institutions and disciplines that focus on the exploration of the shared historical trajectories, mindsets, identities and cultural roots of the Central and Eastern European area, as well as expertise in a range of fields, such as media, political decision-making relating to international cooperation, the promotion of cultural identities, or the politics of history.
