SP characteristics

The PhD program in Biomedical Sciences is primarily intended for graduates of the master's degree programs in General Medicine, Pharmacy, Bioanalytical Laboratory Diagnostics in Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Sciences. It is also suitable for graduates of programs with a focus on biomedical and life sciences. The aim of this study program is the postgraduate education and scientific development of professionals in the biomedical sciences, i.e. medical and molecular biology, physiology and pathological physiology, histology, anatomy and biochemistry. The spectrum of methodologies, professional experience, and practical skills that a graduate will acquire during the studies depends on the dissertation topic and specialisation during the studies. Experimental work is mostly basic research, but there is also an overlap with applied research. An interdisciplinary approach is preferred. The standard study period is four years; the dissertation's defence completes the study. The graduate receives the PhD and can find employment in experimental research as well as in clinical practice.

Graduate profile for the public:
A graduate of the doctoral study program in Biomedical Sciences is a qualified expert in the field of the dissertation topic and is comprehensively prepared for work in an academic or research workplace with a medical, biomedical, pharmaceutical, or natural science focus. The specialisation is determined by the department where the graduate completed the doctoral study program and the individual study program. Therefore, the professional experience and skills of graduates of this study program may differ significantly. During their studies, graduates have acquired new knowledge in the biomedical field and the methodological approaches necessary to address the dissertation topic. The graduate can do independent scientific work, design suitable experiments to test working hypotheses and critically evaluate, discuss, and present the obtained results in spoken and written form. The graduate can prepare an application for a research grant, publish results in impacted international scientific journals and communicate with experts in related biomedical fields. The graduate will receive a PhD, a prerequisite for further career development in academic-scientific and clinical workplaces.
