SP characteristics
The theoretical research psychology study program is a two-year master's degree that allows students to understand the laws of human behavior, cognition, emotions, and motivation. It provides an overview of the development of psychological processes and functions, their variability, social causes, and consequences.
The program primarily teaches students research skills. They learn how to formulate research questions, design experiments, and plans, and collect, analyze, and interpret research data. The program provides ample opportunities to engage in meaningful research projects, thus helping students build a portfolio of work and an individual professional profile that can be especially beneficial for future academic or scientific endeavors. However, research skills are not only necessary in educational and research environments. Still, they are also highly sought after in various professions in the private and academic sectors, wherever psychological research is valued and used.
The program cultivates critical thinking and analytical skills in students. It teaches them to recognize scientific evidence, identify shorthand, biased, and unsubstantiated claims, and make informed decisions based on data. It also develops the skills to communicate one's findings effectively through academic papers and presentations, including presentations of a popularizing nature for the wider public. This improves general communication skills that are valuable in many careers and personal interactions. Research skills, critical thinking skills, and presentation skills are not only essential prerequisites for a career as a researcher in psychology but also support students' personal growth and professional and personal effectiveness in many life situations.
A qualification in research psychology can open the door to a wide range of career opportunities. Graduates can work in the academic sphere, health and education sector, market research, and human resources research. The versatile skill development acquired in our broad theory- and the research-oriented program can be applied by graduates during other diverse forms of fulfilling careers. Many applied fields, such as clinical psychology, counseling, and industrial-organizational psychology, build on the basic knowledge and research methods of research psychology. A strong background in research psychology can be an excellent starting point for pursuing just these specialized areas.

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduates of the theoretical research psychology study program have deep knowledge of the main disciplines within psychology, specifically general, social, developmental, evolutionary, and behavioral psychology, personality psychology, neuropsychology, and psychophysiology. They understand the significance of knowledge considered crucial for individual fields within psychology, primarily through an understanding of the context of their origin and the principles of scientific control and continuity. They are familiar with classical psychological studies and are oriented toward contemporary methods of follow-up and advancing research in psychology. They have an overview of the commonalities and specificities of psychology to other humanities and social sciences.
Above all, the graduates are highly proficient in quantitative and qualitative methodology in psychological research, both in terms of knowledge of the fundamental theoretical principles and practical skills. They are acquainted with tools for measuring mental functions, and with procedures and techniques for processing and evaluating data in qualitatively, quantitatively, and evaluation-oriented psychological research, including knowledge of statistical procedures. They are competent in applying this knowledge for the preparation, implementation, evaluation, and publication of the results of a specific research project.
The graduates master various genres of academic text, from writing projects and summarizing theoretical works to publishing original studies and producing evaluative reports and other outputs. They can flexibly orient themselves in a new research area within psychology, seek and study theoretical foundations, understand the applied methodological procedures, and consider the practical aspects of the issue at hand, including ethical questions, administrative aspects, or funding. This significantly enhances their competitiveness in the field of psychological science, especially when applying for grant support and meeting the high demands of scientific outputs.
The theoretical foundations of the graduates from the main psychological disciplines are enriched by knowledge from specific theoretical areas of psychology: for example, communication psychology, language and learning psychology, intercultural psychology, health psychology, psychopathology, psychology of interpersonal relationships, and human sexuality psychology. The graduate is thus equipped with experience in addressing current, necessary, and significant issues in contemporary society and is trained to flexibly apply psychological methodological knowledge and general scientific skills in conducting modern basic or applied research in psychology.
