SP characteristics

Surgery is one of the basic disciplines of undergraduate and postgraduate medical studies. During the course of studies, the graduate acquires a broad theoretical basis in the field of surgery. Experimental training in surgery and related fields will allow him to acquire specific highly qualified practical skills and original scientific results. The theoretical training will enable him to work independently in a scientific way, starting from the elaboration of scientific literature on a given topic, through the establishment of a hypothesis, its verification on the ground of his own results to their appropriate interpretation with subsequent publication in prestigious scientific journals. Dissertation topics are also selected for wider clinical use. Graduates are employed in surgical departments as professional staff or at medical faculties as university teachers. The curriculum primarily covers the following areas: general surgery, diagnostics and treatment of diseases and injuries of the neck, chest, abdomen, vascular, transplantology, neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, urology, anaesthesiology and intensive care.

The graduate of the doctoral program has a broad academic and medical education, is theoretically well prepared for the profession, demonstrates the prerequisites for cooperation with other health care specialists, is able to communicate adequately, lifelong vocational education and continuous professional growth, knows the methodology of scientific research and research procedures to extend current levels of knowledge. Specifically, it demonstrates a deep and broad knowledge of the biomedical fundamentals of the field, has acquired a broad knowledge of the causes and nature of diseases and pathological conditions, has a deep and broad knowledge of problems and hypotheses related to the research plan solution and ability of their critical evaluation and synthesis of acquired knowledge, very well orientated in professional literature including specialized computer databases. They can practically use the newly acquired knowledge in the field of etiology, diagnostics, prevention and treatment of diseases. He / she is able to develop methods and theories of knowledge of mutual relations in the field of general medicine. Graduates of the doctoral study program acquire the prerequisites to work as a researcher of specialized research institutes, resp. university teacher at theoretical or specialized clinical workplaces of medical faculties. At the same time, they must fulfill the prerequisites of good clinical differential-diagnostic opinion and be a skilled surgeon so that he / she can apply well in clinical practice and further develop his / her professional growth.
