SP characteristics
The Master Programme in Public and Social Policy is designed for students who want to work as professionals in public administration, private sector, non-profit organisations and policy in the role of analysts, consultants, officials or professional politicians. The programme is suitable for graduates of all Bachelor programmes at the FSV or social science programmes at other colleges, and for applicants with full college education from other colleges. Apart from the discipline of public and social policy, the perspectives of sociology, economics, political science, management theory and legal science are applied in the curriculum, with emphasis on practical applications in different areas. Students are encouraged to perform independent as well as team work in solving problems and tackling different exercises. Students are encouraged to gain practical experience in selected organisations of the public, civic or business sectors, embark on academic stays abroad, and study abroad. The curriculum is linked to empirical research and advisory activities undertaken by the Department of Public and Social Policy at the Institute of Sociological Studies and by the Center for Social and Economic Strategies, FSV UK.

Graduate profile for the public:
The study programme prepares public and social policy professionals with important interdisciplinary overlaps into social practice. Upon graduating from the programme, students have mastered state-of-art knowledge about policy making processes and the ability to analyze such processes independently, creatively and critically by using both quantitative and qualitative research methods. To propose and evaluate solution designs, the graduates are able to analyse the procedures of design, implementation and evaluation of public policies at different levels (local, regional, national, international). The graduates are also able to analyse and critically evaluate stakeholders’ actions in relevant institutional frameworks. The graduates are able to communicate and advocate ways of solving complex public policy problems vis-à-vis interested political representatives, administrators, experts and members of the general public. Graduates of the Public and Social Policy study programme can work in public administration, the civic and business sectors, or political institutions. Their knowledge and skills enable them to effectively and efficiently perform analytical, conceptual, organizational, communicative and managerial tasks in creating and implementing public and social policies within the European and global contexts. By the same token, they will be able pursue an academic career in the Czech Republic or elsewhere.
